Our Route

The red line is the basic route we will be taking for the trip. The dotted lines are two alternative ways we can get from Lalibella to Axum, either up the east side or cutting across toGondor and then up.

World Heratige and Histrical sites are:-

Lalibella - The Rock-hewen Churches. Capital of the Zwawe dynasty who ruled from the 10th to mid 13th centuary.

Axum [Aksum] - Ancient City, founded about 300 - 400 BCE. Site of Ethiopias' oldest Christian sanctuary, the Cathederal of Tsion Maryam, founded in the 4 centuary!

Gonder [Gondor] - One of the Original Capitals of Ethiopia. Founded in 1635. Well preserved medieval castles.

Bahir Dar - On the doorstep of Lake Tana's mystical monastries. Homeland of the Falasha, who practice a form of Judaism that was severed from the Jewish mainstream before 650BCE.
